Handmade Christmas Cards – What to put inside

Handmade Christmas cards send out a very special message to the recipient. They say that the sender has spent time and effort to produce a very special Christmas card just for them. How much better that is than a shop bought Christmas card?

Some people are put off the idea of making and sending handmade Christmas cardsbecause they think they lack the necessary artistic talent. The truth is that you do not need to be a Rembrandt or Van Gough to produce very acceptable Christmas cards. Another fear is that handmade cards are “cheap”. Although it is true that cards can be made inexpensively it is also possible to spend considerably more on the materials for a handmade Christmas card than you would pay for a printed card.

A Handmade Christmas Card

A hand made card shows that you consider the person you are making the card for is worth the time and effort to produce it. There is not greater compliment that you can pay another person than to give up some of your time for them.

Even the most artistic card makers often find it a problem deciding what exactly to put inside the card as a message. Of course you could always stick to a simple “Happy Christmas” but it is always good to add that extra little touch. A good idea is to go to any good book of quotations were you will be sure to find some suitable quotes.

If you are a Christian, in these days of rank commercialism including a religious message or quotation in your card can remind the recipient of the true meaning of Christmas.

A quote from Pope John XX111 is very appropriate,

“Mankind is a great, an immense family. This is proved by what we feel in our hearts at Christmas”

On a less religious note other good quotes are:

“Christmas is a race to see which gives out first- your money or your wallet”

“Keeping Christmas is good, but sharing it with others is even better”

“The best Christmas gift of all is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up with one another.”

The above are just examples as there are many more sayings and quotes in the reference books which could prove suitable.

Another option, and one that is often appreciated if you can either write or find a suitable poem for the person you are making the card for. However, what ever message you put inside your cards a handmade Christmas card will almost certainly be treasured by whoever you send it too.
